Butterflies ( 2 - 5 Years )
is home to our older children age 2 – 5 years, we can welcome up to 16 children per session. Throughout our Butterflies classroom we promote as much independence as possible with all our resources are at a low level for the children to be able to make their own choices.
We have a dedicated role play area which is recreated on a regular basis to follow the children’s interest or to be based around our current topic or theme.
Throughout your child’s session exciting activities will be set up following your child’s interests within the preschool room by our devoted staff.
The children have direct access to our garden throughout the day and can independently choose which activities to participate in.
The planning for our Butterflies is led by the children’s interests and tailored to meet their individual needs.
We have group times for the children to enjoy bringing their favourite books to life as well as singing and playing a variety of group games.
We run two PE sessions a week for the children. More information on our pe sessions can be found in the drop-down bar.
Early communication is very important within our nursery so we provide lots of opportunities for singing, group discussions, looking at and sharing books. We run a book bag scheme to support early reading at home as well as nursery, more information on our book bag scheme can be found in the drop-down bar.
Play is important to a child's development; it is an important part of a child's Early Years Foundation Stage and supports their learning journey before they begin school. Children can develop many skills through play. A child can express themselves through play, often giving them more confidence to open up to allow a full spectrum of development to happen. They can develop their language skills, emotions, creativity and social skills.
Updates are available throughout the day of how your child has been, and pictures of activities your child has taken part in are shared regularly on Tapestry.
Within the preschool room we encourage children to take part in our reading scheme. Book bags can be purchased from the nursery direct.
Once your child has a book bag, a member of staff will provide your child with a reading log. Each child gets to choose a book from our collection of Biff, Chip and Kipper books.
A staff member will sit with your child for short periods throughout the week reading and looking at the book of their choice. Your child also gets to the enjoy their book at home.
We feel as a team it is very important as it sparks interest in books and also introduces them to the early phonic sounds ready for when they start to learn to read at school.
When your child start in the Butterflies they will join in with our PE sessions. There are 2 sessions each week running either am or pm.
During our PE sessions we do a variety of activities such as Sticky Kids dancing, obstacle courses, ball games, parachute games and many more fun and exciting activities. During this time your child learns the independence of changing themselves in to their PE kit (which can either be purchased from the nursery or parents are welcome provide their own), all ready for when they start their next adventure, school!
The Butterflies staff feel that it’s an important part of the week as it improves co-ordination, flexibility and strength for your child.
During the sessions we regularly talk about the importance of having healthy bodies which helps our natural development, enhancing our ability to maintain focus throughout play and also encourages friendships in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
